Welcome to our crafts section. Our shop is the place to find many items hand made in Wales. For hands on experience visit our pottery. We also make earthenware and decorate bone china. Our flock of rare Norfolk Horn sheep provide the raw materials for a range of wool products and knitting and weaving kits. We make many ceramic or wool items to order here and many of the suppliers to our shop will do the same - so if you can't find exactly what you want - just ask! If you want to buy then the sections below link to relevant catalogue pages.
Whether you live in South Wales and are looking for an authentic Welsh gift for that special someone living abroad, or are a holiday maker looking for a special thank you present for your house sitter, our shop will have what you are looking for.
We have over 1000 lines of stock made by 40 different crafts people or small family-run firms, working in everything from beads to woodwork, we even have greetings cards in Cymraeg or English. If you are not a craft person then we have books on Welsh themes from Seren (external link) books for you and also a bookcase of second hand books and Llyfr Cymraeg. Between 1995 and early 2000 a potter - Richard Hill - worked here, but left before we arrived in May 2000. Later in 2000, we accidentally brought his moulds home - and now, we use them to make slip cast earthenware. We will demonstrate the technique and you can see items in various stages of completion, and (if you are lucky) you may even see some new projects being tried for the first time!
We have two potter's wheels on which you can have a go at making your own pots using self hardening clay - so you can take it home with you without waiting for the clay to be fired! We also have a selection of plates and figurines for you to decorate, and NEW to Glyn-Coch is a Ceramic Cafe, where you can decorate plates and we will glaze them for you to collect a few days later! Bone China decorating started here as long ago as 1965 when Jean Evans left Royal Worcester, where she taught apprentices to paint china. She ran her own business, Glyn-Coch Designs, here between 1980 and 1995, and now we are fortunate that she is supervising our china decoration as well. Whether you want a complete dinner service, a personalised anniversary plate, a set of mugs for a club event or a specially decorated plate for a charity auction, we can supply your needs. We also have a range of hand painted white bone china made for you to collect from our Craft Shop. We cannot routinely demonstrate china painting as the pigments have to be made up for each session, but if you would like a demonstration please contact us a month or so before you wish to come.
