At Glyn-Coch, we have a large selection of Welsh Crafts. Click on the links below to explore the craft side of Glyn-Coch. We have a bit of everything from Welsh Pottery to Welsh Knitting Kits, and from Welsh China to Welsh Woodwork.
Whether you live in Carmarthenshire and are looking for an authentic Welsh gift for that special someone living abroad, or are a holiday maker looking for a special thank you present for your house sitter, our shop will have what you are looking for.
We have over 1000 lines of stock made by 40 different local crafts people or small family-run firms, working in everything from paintings to woodwork, we even have greetings cards!!
Between 1995 and 2000 a potter - Richard Hill - worked here, but left before we arrived in May 2000. Later in 2000, we accidentally brought his moulds home - and now, we use them to make slip cast earthenware. You can see how we do this, and see our worst mistakes.
We also have two potters wheels on which you can have a go at making your own pottery using self hardening clay - so you can take it home with you! We also have a selection of plates and figurines for you to decorate, and NEW to Glyn-Coch is a Ceramic Cafe, where you can decorate plates and we will glaze them for you to collect a few days later!
Welsh China decorating started here as long ago as 1965 when Jean Evans left Royal Worcester where she taught people to decorate china. Her own business; Glyn-Coch Designs; started here in 1980, and now we are fortunate that she is teaching us to decorate china as well. Whether you want a complete dinner service, a personalised anniversary plate, a set of mugs for a club event or a specially decorated plate for a charity auction, we can supply your needs. We also have a range of hand painted white bone china made for you to collect from our Craft Shop.
Do you remember knitting on a cotton reel? We do, and we sell a range of spinning, knitting or weaving kits using out own rare Norfolk Horn Wool. When you have worked your way through them, we also make peg doll kits - dressed in a range of Welsh Regional Costumes.
Kids (and big kids!!): Visit Dragon's Corner to see items that other visitor's have painted! You never know, your piece may end up in our gallery if you paint one!!
We also have a selection of Welsh hand-made toys in stock. This section is for kids of all ages. Remember owning a wooden pet on wheels? How about one of those cars where you can simply play with them and don't have to worry about little tiny motors breaking? Well in this section you can find a selection of these toys, which, I for one, miss in this world of remote-control cars and robotic pets that talk to you.
